DISCIPLESHIP NEWS (by Lee Nguyen)
On the Campus (April 2011)
George Lim and Yuan Cheng have been serving at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) as campus leaders for the last 2 years. 40 students meet each week in bible studies to learn about being gospel-centered disciples under their leadership. Currently I am passing on to them principles concerning Godly leadership such as character, spiritual authority, and calling. It has been meaningful and revealing as we examine our own lives in depth. The process, which is still ongoing, has helped us discover our weaknesses, affirmed our strengths, and develop our gifts. As a result, we starting a 40 day prayer challenge with UCSD student leaders and cutting out certain ministry responsibilities to continue to grow in maturity through this process.
In the City (March 2011)
Stephen Wu (project mgr. at Boeing), Sean Aita (Verizon Auditor), Benson Li (grad student), Vu Nguyen (Sales Rep), and Tricia Cheng (Physical Therapist), are all committed to being disciples in their workplace and impact the local city we live in. We meet each week to learn how to impact people we see everyday with the gospel. God is definitely shaking up the workplace. Co-workers open up about their personal struggles, ask questions about God, converse about the bible, and even visit our bible study to learn about the gospel. What amazes me is how God is using such a young group. Sean & Vu accepted Christ just last year and Benson is not even a Christian yet!
In Other Countries (March 2011)
Dr. Daniel Lee, my mentor, has already established a disciple making ministry in Central America in 2006 called the Timothy Academy. The Timothy Academy is in the process of partnering with local churches to build a mission training center. Dr. Lee has also been traveling to Ukraine 3-4 times a year since 2007 to start another ministry. I work closely with Dr. Lee training short term mission teams, planning pastors conferences, and preparing lecture material. I am so overcome with amazement being able to witness God fulfilling His Great Commission in other nations. I am also challenged learning how integral making disciples is in the context of missions.
Little Spark Mission is a disciple making ministry that focuses on the development of spiritual leaders. Our desire is to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus Christ. We strive to train disciple makers who are unashamed of the gospel & live by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ (Rom. 1:16-17; Mt. 28:18-20). We currently have existing ministries in university campuses in California, Colorado, and Central America.
